GOD IN ALL: PART 4 - CREATURES OF THE EARTH

Creatures of the Earth

Amphibians hatching from eggs
Breathing in water through gills.
A metamorphosis begins -
Fish-like tadpoles change...growing legs!
Become frogs breathing air through their skin.
Another impressive skill
are how newts can regrow lost limbs -
God's sequential conversion
Encoded and implanted within!

An odd assortment are reptiles:
Tiny geckos to crocodiles;
Dinosaurs with a deadly fate.
Lizards freeze and thaw to the weather;
Old skins fall off as snakes slither.
God foretold to that serpent of old
in Genesis three that he would be
crushed by the woman's seed.

On day six came the animals
Six thousand species of mammals
live together, prey and predator
Today's landscaper balancers.
Ponder the bat - what a wonder
Inborn with radar/doppler.
Seeing by knowing the speed of sound
as echoes off objects go 'round.
Echolation!
Our God's innovation.

Seventy years, can elephants live,
memories etched as time unfolds -
even grudges can take a hold.
Trunks like fingers are sensitive -
able to comfort and caress,
grasping a single blade of grass.
Elephants hear sounds through their feet,
While submerged, can smell, breath and eat.

Mammals - how to choose just a few?
The intricate spine of a shrew,
the weight of a teen can sustain.
Reindeer eyes through seasons change,
golden summer to winter blue.
Snow leopards fifty feet can leap,
twenty hours each day koalas sleep.
God's theatre where marvels unfold,
Upon each creatures' stories told.

Learn the animal metaphor-
From miles away hear triumphs' roar!
The tribe of Judah's lion king
has a new song for us to sing.
Love planned from before time began
Christ once the sacrificial lamb
returns the victorious king,
his bride now home to bring.

Long before I ever knew the God of our Lord Jesus, I remember studying William Blake's "Tyger". Here is the first verse (which also happens to be the last verse): "Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry?" Blake goes on to ask if God who made the lamb, also made the tyger. Now I can see the poem through eyes of faith and appreciate the beauty of the tiger. Interestingly, no two tigers, just like zebras, share the same stripes.  Animals are all designed with the exact features they need to survive, and all live with set roles in a balanced eco-system. Animals are beautiful, strange, frightening, comforting, useful, loving, wild, playful and have a staggering endless amount of diversity. To imagine a scenario where goop evolved out of the water into something complex defies logic. To this date, nothing has been found in our fossil record to prove any such "evolution" between the classes. Like the bat, who is equipped to fly using a complex Doppler/radar system, animals are created by an intelligent designer, each according to their "kind'.

Interesting Facts:

Amphibians

  • Amphibians begin their lives in water. Hatching from eggs they have gills and fins like fish. Later their bodies grow lungs and they live the rest of their lives on land. They also have thin moist skin that also helps them breath.
  • There are over 8000 species of amphibians. They are vertebrates with no scales.
  • The largest amphibian is the Chinese Giant Salamander. It can grow six feet long and weigh 140 lb.
  • All frogs swallow their prey whole. A group of frogs is called an army.
  • Wood frogs that live in the arctic circle can remain in a frozen state for up to eight months, then thaw back to life as the weather warms up.
  • Some poisonous frogs secrete enough poison to kill ten humans.

Red Eyed Tree Frog

Reptiles
  • There are over 10,000 species of reptiles.
  • Most reptiles can see colors better than mammals.
  • All reptiles have scales.
  • The tiniest reptile is a gecko at under an inch. The largest is the saltwater crocodile which can reach 20 feet long.
  • A crocodile can go up to half a year without eating.
  • Turtles' lungs are attached to the inside top of their shells.
  • Tortoises can live past a 150 years.
  •  Lizards are affected by temperatures and become sluggish with colder weather.
Mammals
  • There are approximately 6,500 species of  mammals.
  • Mammals are warm blooded animals that all have hair (even whales and dolphins).
  • The largest land mammal is the African elephant that can weigh up to 13,000 pounds.
  • It is true that an elephant never forgets.
  • An elephant never forgets a face or experience and even hold grudges, starting from childhood.
  • Elephants use their trunks as snorkels, and can hold over two gallons of water.
  • Elephants can hear through their feet and use their trunks like fingers.
  • A lion's roar can be heard as far as five miles away.
  • You can tell the age of a male lion by the darkness of his mane.
  • Bats are the only flying mammals that can sustain true flight (as opposed to gliding mammals).
  • They are born knowing the speed of sound through echolocation.
  • Bats do this by broadcasting sounds that bounce off solid objects and tracking the speed the sound travels.
  • Reindeers' eyes change from gold to blue every winter in order to adapt to extreme changes in light conditions.

Revelation 5:5 Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.

Genesis 1:25: God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good."

I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING (GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING)

Some Days

Some days I don't know right from wrong,

I don't know up from down.

Some days my faith is gone.

I don't hear so clear and everything turns to fear.

I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do.

Some days my trust wears thin,

and I don't know where to begin.

Grains of sand running through my hands,

Unstoppable. Uncontainable.

Just like my tears.

My God, my God...

Even so, I know, You know, the way to go.

And so I sit. Silent. And give You all of it.

SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE (WHEN IS JESUS COMING BACK?)

When is Jesus Coming Back?

Dear family and friends:

It has been 15 years since I last talked about end times and Jesus’ return! So much has happened since then including a world-wide pandemic. I feel now is a good time to revisit the topic. Everything we need to know is in God’s word.  “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16). The bible is the most studied, most controversial, and most published book on the planet.

A quarter of the Bible consists of prophecy of which about three quarters has already come to pass. This should give us confidence of what is yet to come and to put our trust and faith in Jesus. I will be focusing on some of the prophecies occurring now or yet to be fulfilled.  To get an overview, you can read what Jesus told his disciples would be the signs of the end of the age before his return, found in two accounts: Matthew 24 and Mark 13.  For more serious study you can also look at 2 Peter 3, 2 Timothy 3, 1 Thessalonians 2, Revelation, Ezekiel 37 & 38, and Daniel 2, 7 & 9.

Here is a summary of what Jesus foretold over 2000 years ago: Nations will rise against nations, there will be famines and earthquakes, false prophets will arise and deceive many, wickedness will increase, brother will betray brother, a father will betray his child, and children will rebel against their parents. The gospel will be preached to all nations, there will be unequaled distress from the beginning of the world (the tribulation), the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.  Then Jesus will come on the clouds of the sky to gather his church. “Even so, when you see all these things, you will know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.” Matthew 24:13-14.

Some other passages add on to these predictions: Israel will become a state (Ezekiel 37) the rich will increase their wealth at the expense of the poor (James 5), there will be an increase of travel and knowledge (Daniel 12:4), there will be a moral breakdown and unbelief (2 Peter 3:1-12), people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous and without self-control…(2 Timothy 3). There will also be a one world church and one world government during the tribulation where the beast and false prophet are revealed (Revelation 17 and Daniel 2).

When I look at the state of the world today, I see we are ever closer to a unified ten head government as predicted in Daniel 2, which would give the ability to the beast (the antichrist) to take over as described in Revelation 13.  Government bodies like the World Health Organization, the World Economic Forum, the World Trade Organization, the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and European Union are all advocating a one world agenda.

I believe the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic illustrates how easily this could be done. Look how quickly the world shut down and borders closed. Everyone panicked, and governments quickly stepped in with laws that took away basic rights and freedoms for the greater good of the population. Look at how economies have been devastated and food supply impacted.  As we speak, world-wide vaccine passports are now being discussed which could be a foretaste of how to track all people on earth. Now imagine more severe pandemics, disasters, climate change upheaval, droughts, crop failures and wars. The conditions for world governance would quickly transition.

No one is trying to hide this plan. For example, go on the World Economic Forum website and you will find information on the “great reset”.  Leaders around the world seem to be using the WEF catch phrase “Build Back Better” everywhere (Including our Prime Minister Trudeau). The UN has their Sustainable Development Goals aimed to bring peace and prosperity to all people by 2030.  These socialist views of eliminating economic inequalities, poverty and saving the environment sound good, but could ultimately be used by the antichrist to his advantage as he takes over these ten-ruling world governments. (The world has not faired well with these types of principles as seen in Marxist/Communist ideology which end up in dictatorships that exploit the poor and often lead to horrific genocides.)

When the antichrist is finally revealed for who he is, the world will be under his control including all commerce: “He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name (Revelation 13:16-17).

In 2015, thousands of Swedes had microchips implanted in their wrists to use in place of keys and id cards. In 2020 Walletmor, a Polish-British company based in London, said they have created the world’s first microchip implant that can be inserted under the skin and used to make contactless payments at any card terminal. Check out their video! https://youtu.be/aymBka2nhUo

On 28 August 2020, Neuralink CEO Elon Musk revealed a company directed live video podcast showcasing a pig called Gertrude with a coin-sized computer chip in her brain to demonstrate his ambitious plans to create a working brain-to-machine interface. Nanobot biotechnology is another interesting aspect of medical treatment.  These programmable micro robots smaller than the size of a human cell are being researched and developed as we speak to be used in our bodies.

It seems like the technology is already here to implement the mark of the beast in order to buy and sell. When I studied this passage 15 years ago, I thought it meant some type of barcode! How far we have come in technology is mindboggling. It might not be a chip, but most people will likely take the mark, just to survive.  But as Christians we are warned not to take the mark of the beast, and many will die because of it. Make no mistake, there will be a choice to be made during the end times. “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury…This calls for patience and endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus” (Revelation 14: 9, 10, 12).

So when will Jesus return for His church? It could happen tomorrow. It could happen a hundred years from now. Most bible scholars believe the church will be spared from the tribulation to come as Jesus will come back for His church:

For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord for ever. Therefore encourage one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-19).

So, if Christians disappear don’t believe that this is because of UF0’s and alien abductions!

But there will be a great harvest where many will give their lives to Christ during the tribulation and will have to face the wrath of the antichrist. (See Revelation 7:9-17).  I would choose to follow Christ now rather than later! Only Gods knows the exact day of Christ’s return according to scripture. But Jesus did tell us the signs to look for and to be ready as he shared in Mark: “No one knows about the day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard. Be alert! You do not know when that time will come…If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’ ” (Mark 13:32,36,37).

When world events do not make sense or seem frightening, I hope this will bring you comfort that God has a plan and already knows the ending, because he alone is omniscient! This should encourage us and give us hope for our eternal future.

As frightening as the book of Revelation is, chapters 21-23 describe a new heavens and earth, where everything is made brand new, where there is no more pain or suffering, and where God himself will dwell with us. There is also an invitation at the end of Revelation:

“And let him who hears say, “Come!”. Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the gift of the water of life” (Revelation 22:17).

I am thankful that this gift bought by Jesus’ sacrifice is free to whoever wishes to take it: "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved!" (Romans 10:9)

Jesus is truly our living water. Let’s all be ready!

GOD IN ALL: PART 3 - CREEPING, SWIMMING AND FLYING THINGS

Creeping, Flying and Swimming Things

Insects beyond count or belief
aid us despite lives that are brief.
Vital crops need pollination
dead matter - decomposition.
Dragonflies control pests that bite,
devouring prey in mid-flight.
Designs for defense they supply,
but we can't match God's dragonfly!

Miracles of metamorphosis
turns caterpillar into chrysalis.
Evolutionists can't explain
how liquid mush is rearranged
into beautiful stain glass wings
struggling to emerge, new life springs.
The new has come, the old has gone
as our hearts to Jesus are drawn.

Hummingbirds that weigh less than a dime
Billiard ball size are ostrich eyes
Ten thousand avian species;
falcons, flamingoes, wrens and magpies
parrots, peacocks, owls and kiwis.
What profusion of plumage divine!
Each sparrow's life accounted for
God's love for us means so much more.

Hollow bones hold air for flight
feathers all ordered by size and type
tails that steer, balance and brake
wings streamlined for maximum uptake.
How do they know where to go?
Across oceans from North to South Pole?
Navigation unexplained
each bird migration  is God sustained.

Heart of the Earth; seas foam and roar
Home to life most extraordinaire.
Frogfish walk along ocean floor
world's fastest bite, prey beware!
Leafy sea dragons camouflage
as plants so predators are dodged.
Fairy fantasia floats on by
lighting up pink to stay alive.

Who can fathom God's blue abyss
unexplored and mysterious?
Creepy creatures dwell in the dark deep
Schools of fish swim and dolphins leap.
Plankton produces our oxygen
balancing life through God's ocean.
Vibrant marine life abounding
Breathtaking beauty, astounding!

Yet even more astonishing...
God casts all our sins into the sea
forever forgotten, never retrieved
because the cross counted the cost,
true love set us free.

Poetry by nature strips meaning down to the briefest amount of words possible.  This makes it even more difficult to pick and choose what to include. The diversity and complexity of God's creation boggles the mind. Who can just choose one insect out of the 925 million identified species? Or even one butterfly out of the 17,500  recorded species? Or one of the 230,000 species of creatures that live in the ocean? (And another estimated 2 million that remain a mystery) Or to choose just one bird from 10,000 species? Each created living thing is so complex and mysterious. Only someone with creativity and great intelligence could conceive of each and every living thing. The odds of single celled organisms coming out of mud and  giving rise to what we see today just doesn't make logical sense!

Consider the honey bee that has the ability to communicate to other bees the precise location of flowers through a dance that expresses distance in relation to the sun and the hive? How can the Monarch butterfly, who has never met its parents, find its way 3000 miles from Canada to Mexico to the same tree their parents wintered at? Look at the complex ant colony that is organized into worker and soldier ants.  There are insects that look like sticks, green leaves, and even a humming bird! There are so many butterflies and moths that are spectacular.  There are birds with beautiful colors whose wings are an engineering feat. An Alpine swift can fly up to six months without stopping. The creatures in the depths of the ocean are even more mystifying as anyone who has been to an aquarium will agree.  Those few photos of the ones in the deepest of depths defy explanation with their own electricity making fishing rods to lure prey. The beauty and complex creation of God is endless with yet more discoveries to be made.

A closeup of the compound eyes of a blue dasher dragonfly.
Dragonfly compound eyes

Interesting facts about creatures:

Insects:
  • There are 5000 species of dragon flies.
  • Dragonflies can hover and fly in any direction including sideways and backwards. Their four wings can switch directions and move independently.
  • Dragonflies have huge compound eyes, which contain 30,000 facets. They have near 360 vision.
  • Bio engineers used the dragonfly eye as inspiration to create predictive vision for driverless cars, as well as its wings for the Skeeter military surveillance drone.
  • A dragonfly catches and can eat its prey in mid-air, and can eat up to 300 mosquitoes per day.
  • Butterflies taste with their feet. Butterfly wings move in a figure eight motion.
  • Caterpillars have 12 eyes.
  • The largest butterfly has a 12 inch wingspan.
Birds:
  • No one can explain how birds navigate long distances across ocean without getting lost.
  • It's a miracle how birds know exactly how much to eat, in relation to the distance and speed needed for migration.
  • The Arctic Tern has the longest migratory route covering 35,000 km from the North to South Pole
  • A Bar-tailed Godwit broke the record in 2020 for longest non stop migration at 12,200 km, over 11 days from Alaska to New Zealand.
  • Only birds have hollow bones and feathers which are needed for flight. The hollow bones provide more oxygen. Feathers are beautifully designed complex engineering structures.
  • Canadian Geese fly in the V formation to conserve energy as birds takes turns being the leader, who takes on the most energy splitting the current. The leader falls back and lets another take over when he tires.
  • The Peregrine Falcon is the fastest animal on the planet with a swooping speed of 322 km an hour.
  • An ostrich can kill a lion with one kick.
  • Hummingbirds beat their wings as fast at 50 times per second.
  • Ravens are extremely intelligent and can mimic human speech better than many parrots.
  • Owls can almost turn their heads 360 degrees but they cannot move their eyes.
  • The penguin is the only bird that can swim but not fly. They are also the only bird to walk upright.

Ocean life:
  • Oceans cover over 70% of the Earth's surface.
  • 97% of all water from our planet and almost all rain is from the ocean.
  • Scientists estimate that approximately 90% of the ocean species have yet to be discovered and 80% of the ocean has not yet been explored.
  • Microscopic ocean plants (phytoplankton) provide 70% of the Earth's oxygen. In comparison, the Amazon Rain forest supplies 6% at most.
  • Oceans are Earth's largest solar energy collector which stabilizes our climate system.
  • Mariana's Trench is the deepest part of the ocean. The deepest point is 36,200 feet, measuring 1.2 miles higher than Mount Everest.

Leafy Sea Dragon
Angler Fish from the Abyss zone

Pink See Through Fantasia (Sea Cucumber)

  • Frogfish have the quickest bite of any vertebrate on earth, faster than the blink of an eye (1/6000 of a second). They also walk on their fins.
  • Anglerfish have a dangling lure they use to attract prey, that is filled with bacteria that make their own light.  By pulsing the light and moving the lure back and forth, they successfully attract pelagic crustaceans, fishes, and other prey.
  • Like seahorses, the male leafy sea dragon takes care of the fertilized eggs until they hatch. Leafy sea dragons have no predators because of their excellent camouflage and tough jointed plates.
  • Not much is known about the pink sea through fantasia, a sea cucumber, as it was first discovered in 2007.  It emits its own light to scare off predators and it's intestines are all visible.

Genesis 1:21
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

GOD IN ALL: PART 2 - DOWN TO EARTH

Down to Earth

Resplendent orange and hues of blue
Blanket the Earth and insulates
Life giving air;  our atmosphere!
Layer upon layer; each its own traits
Wind mixer, water carrier
Light absorber, light scatterer
Delicately balanced with care
Created by God with flair!

Water moving by God's hand
Everything has been pre-planned
Sun, plants, seas and lake
Work together to evaporate
Vapors rise; condense to clouds
Then return down to the ground
Growing food for us to eat
Water fit for us to drink

He thunders with majestic voice
Sends storms with terrifying force
A billion volts within one bolt
A lethal yet critical part
Cooling our earth, cleaning our air
More ozone for our atmosphere
And soil enriched with nitrogen
God's power and plan have no end!

Ice crystals form as vapors freeze
Hexagon prisms float to the ground
Each snowflake uniquely conceived
God's storehouse of treasures confound
as no two the same can be found
An image from Him lies within:
Although as scarlet be our sins
Snow white they turn when we believe

God created plants on day three
Solar powered food factories!
Seeds soar and swim and scatter
take root as embryos break free
Knowing up from down through dark matter
Sun seekers defy gravity
Photosynthesis! How efficient!
God alone knows these intricacies

Plants can poison; plants can heal
Carnivore types can eat a meal
Aloe Vera our burns relieve
Nutrients from plants we receive
Earth's oldest living forms are trees
God's garden created with ease
Beauty comes through flowers that dance
Plant oxygen gives life a chance

The space-shuttle Endeavour against the multiple colors of our atmosphere as seen from space.

While researching our universe and earth, I couldn't get over how delicately everything works together to bring everything in balance for life, including all aspects of the universe, our solar system, our sun, our moon, our atmosphere, our water cycle and climate system. Everything God does is perfect, and conducive to life. This perfection and design is more than anything mankind can do! The beauty and complexity still shines through, in spite of our destruction, pollution and lack of care for our planet. Does anyone consider what a miracle our water cycle is? Even though 90 percent of our precipitation comes from the ocean, the salt is left behind during the evaporation process, so that it is able to come back down as rain to water all the plants and our crops on the earth, instead of killing them! Our underground fresh water aquifer systems and lakes and oceans are also all replenished. Without the complex water cycle, there would be no life on earth! Without the complicated design of plant photosynthesis providing oxygen, there would be no life on earth!

The bible speaks to God's miraculous creation:

"The heavens are Yours, and Yours also the earth;
You founded the world and all that is in it"
Psalm 89:11

"He spreads out the northern sky over empty space;
He suspends the earth over nothing"
Job 26:7

"Who can understand how He spreads out the clouds,
How He thunders from His pavilion?
See how He scatters his lightening?
Job 36:29-30

Our God has infinite creativity! Enjoy this amazing information:

The atmosphere:
  • The atmosphere is made up of five main layers - the Exosphere (where satellites orbit), the Thermosphere; (where we see the Northern Lights) the Mesosphere; (where meteors burn up) the Stratosphere; (where the Ozone layer is) and the Troposphere (where all weather occurs).
  • The Troposphere is about 10 km high above sea level and appears orange from outer-space, not blue.
  • Without the atmosphere, life on earth would be impossible. It filters in the perfect amount of sunlight needed for life. It also had a perfect balance of 78% Nitrogen to 21% oxygen needed for plants, animals and people to breathe.
  • The atmosphere regulates weather patterns and moves all water back to earth as rain.
The Water Cycle:
  • The water cycle begins with evaporation which creates water vapor, which is then condensed into clouds. Water molecules then collide together until they become too heavy, and then fall to the earth in the form of rain, snow, ice or sleet.
  • The water cycle also regulates the earth's temperature.
  • The water cycle get's all it's energy from the sun.
  • 97% of the water on earth is salty.
  • 90% of precipitation comes from the oceans.
  • Of the 3% of our fresh water, 2/3rd is frozen in the polar icecaps. Much of what is left is found in underground aquifers.
  • Plants also contribute to the water cycle by transpiration or sweating.
  • 434,000 cubic km of water evaporates from the oceans each year.
  • About 1/6th as much evaporates from land water sources.
  • About 398,000 cubic km of precipitation fall on the oceans each year and 107,000 cubic km through land sources each year.
  • Water stays in the atmosphere on average nine days.
Thunderstorms:
  • 100 lightening bolts hit the earth every second.
  • There are 16 million thunderstorms per year and 16,000 at any given moment.
  • Thunderstorms and rain wash away many pollutants out of the air through the production of ozone.
  • Thunderstorms act as a natural air conditioner - without them the earth would be 11 C degrees warmer.
  • Farmers love lightening as it produces nitrogen which acts as a fertilizer.
  • Thunderstorms also balance the Earth's electrical field in a way not yet understood by scientists.
  • Even though lightening can carry up to 100 million volts, a strike is only the size of a quarter. It appears much bigger because of how bright it is.
  • Lightening bolts are about 27,000 C degrees, which is about five times hotter than the surface of the sun, and more powerful than an atomic bomb.
Snowflakes:
  • Snowflakes start as tiny ice crystals that form from water vapor that freezes in the atmosphere.
  • Each snowflake is made up of about 200 ice crystals.
  • All snow flakes have six sides (hexagonal).
  • Snow at the north and south poles reflect heat into space, acting like a mirror from the sun.
  • Billions of snowflakes fall in every snow storm.
  • There are 35 basic types of snowflakes.
  • The odds are 1 trillion trillion trillion to 1 to find any two snowflakes the same since the start of weather.
Real snowflakes as seen under a microscope
Plants:
  • An estimated 80% of our oxygen comes from phyto-plankton (single celled plants) found in the ocean. The rest come from land plants.
  • About 10% of our atmosphere's moisture comes from plants.
  • 70,000 species of plants are used for medicine.
  • 80,000 species are edible.
  • Gravitropism is the power plants have to defy gravity. Generally plants grow upward to sunlight. However, if they have a narrow range of light, plants will even grow upside down to reach the light!
  • Trees are the world's largest organisms with a bristle-cone pine located in Inyo National Forest, California, estimated at over 5,000 years old. Methuselah stands at the age of 4,848 in the White Mountains of California.(their exact locations are kept secret)

GOD IN ALL: PART 1 - GOD'S PLAN

GOD IN ALL: Part 1 - God's Plan

God's Plan

Look up into the late night sky
It's vastness who can comprehend
Galaxies! Billions and Billions
Helix, Whirlpool, Sombrero, Black Eye
Stars daily born, stars daily die
Spectacular! Miraculous!
God's splendor on display

One hundred light years across,
Sprawl Milky Way's four spiral arms
Suspended within lies the earth
A most privileged place
Far from the centre of chaos
Far from harm near Orion's arm
Unfathomable! Ingenious!
God's plan for man

Around the sun each planet spins
Clockwork precision and order
Earth is spared most comet collisions
Drawn away by Jupiter's pull
Mathematical! Logical!
Copernicus, Newton and Einstein,
Discovering God's grand design

Consider our sun, brought forth on day four
Fifteen million degrees at its core
A thermonuclear fusion reactor
Just one second of solar power,
Is more than all human history's yield
Fearsome! Mighty! Life-giving source
Whom but God can wield it's force

Our moon was formed just the right size
Needed to keep Earth's tilt stabilized
Keeping our seasons in order
And our days from being much shorter
Who can fathom a total eclipse of the sun
As moon in transit becomes one
Magnificent! A perfect fit!
All part of God's intent

A plus or minus five percent
In Earth's orbit has consequence
Too hot, too cold for life to thrive
This sweet spot keeps us all alive
Earth's mass is also optimal
Too large, too small, no life at all
No air to breathe, all seas no shores
Life not by chance but God's good grace

Love planned before time began

We have a cottage at Long Point, Ontario which also happens to be one of the darkest areas in Southern Ontario to view the stars. Every summer I wait for a new moon to get a perfect view of the Milky Way galaxy. Even more spectacular is a new moon in August that coincides with the annual Perseid Meteor shower. I lay out on my blanket to watch the colorful meteors with long tails streak across the sky at a rate of almost one per minute. I can't help but feel my own insignificance and smallness in the universe as I ponder the infinite facets of our creator.

He determines the number of the stars
and calls them each by name
Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
    his understanding has no limit.
Psalm 147:4-5

I set out to write a poem to honor God's creation, but immediately felt unequal to the task as there are just no words or enough verses to even begin to scratch the surface. My poems are normally relatively short, but in order to provide a snapshot, I  decided to write an epic poem covering about 15-20 verses, beginning with what is large and going down to what is microscopic. Part 1 covers the universe, the solar system, the sun and the earth. You will have to wait several months for the next installment!

Even more wondrous to me is that before the existence of time, God  had a plan because of his great love for us:

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,  but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
2 Timothy 1:9-11

Obviously God is not bound by time, and together with Jesus, created everything we see. What an awesome God!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
 Through him all things were made;
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth
John 1:1-2,14

Below I've added interesting information I discovered during my research. Enjoy!

  • Earth has one of the best views of the universe because we live away from the galactic centre, radiation, and debris. The band of space where we live near Orion's Arm offers a clear view. I believe God wanted us to discover his creation!
  • A new study suggests there are around 700 quintillion (a 7 followed with 20 zeros) planets in the universe but only one like earth.
  • Earth is the only planet that we know of that has conditions for life to exist inside our solar system. The odds of earth even existing at all are slim. NASA scientists have scanned tens of thousands of other universes without evidence of advanced civilizations. Earth is indeed a privileged planet.
  • The universe and solar system are based on advanced mathematical laws that suggest intelligent design from a creator. Newton's Version of Kepler's Third Law, explains the laws governing planetary motion even beyond our solar system.
  • Neptune was discovered through these mathematical equations by French mathematician Urbin Le Verrier in 1846.
  • Understanding calculus, means you can understand  the stars. Scientist understand that mathematics is the language of the universe, and allows us to explore beyond our reach.
  • Albert Einstein's math allows us to understand gravity and the universe in a new way.
  • Jupiter attracts most comet collisions away from earth and is our great protector. Astronomists say without a Jupiter type planet at the right distance away from Earth, life would be difficult or impossible. No other Jupiter type planets have as yet to be discovered in other solar systems.
  • Our Sun is ideal for life on earth as it does not project super flares like other suns, and is also the perfect size and distance from Earth.
  • Our sun is a stable hydrogen bomb that gives off more energy every second than a billion major cities would use in an entire year.
  • The sun is 93 million miles away from earth and 109 times the diameter of earth and over a million times the volume of Earth. It represents 99.86 of all the solar system's mass. About 1.3 million Earths could fit inside our sun.
  • the largest sun discovered in the observable universe is UY Scuti, with a radius 1,700 times the size of our sun. The next largest sun is VY Canis Majoris, and it is estimated that 9.3 billion of our suns would fit into Canis Majoris.
  • Light travels at the speed of approximately 300,000 km per second. It takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds for light to reach the earth from the sun. One light year would equal 9.5 trillion km. It would take 200,000 light years to travel across The Milky Way. It would take 749,000,000,000 (749 million) light years to travel to the nearest galaxy.
  • Arno Penzias (Nobel prize winner in Physics) says "Astronomy leads us to a unique event, a universe which was created out of nothing, one with the very delicate balance needed to provide exactly the conditions required to permit life, and one which has an underlying, one might say, supernatural plan."
  • Alexander Polyakov (Soviet Mathematician) states: We know that nature is described by the best of all possible mathematics because God created it.
  • "Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it's a profound source of spirituality, said Carl Sagan. (Famous astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist and author).
  • Albert Einstein was quoted as saying "There must be something behind the energy" and "Every scientist becomes convinced that the laws of nature manifest the existence of a spirit vastly superior to that of men."
